Director of Quality Assurance Job Description
Summary
Reporting to the President, the Director of Quality is responsible for planning and directing quality activities in support of the company’s quality assurance operations. More specifically, the Director of Quality is responsible for developing and executing the company’s process control and quality management systems to meet customer requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the operations of the Quality Assurance department
- Implement quality system to ensure customer requirements are met
- Create, implement, evaluate and adjust company’s quality policies, standards, procedures and strategic plans
- Determine, review and approve supplier’s performance as per required specifications
- Develop and maintain QA standards relating to processes and products
- Maintain systems to measure performance against established standards
- Ensure QA team and employees use quality tools to improve the company’s accuracy, efficiency and profitability
- Implement approved sampling, reporting and data analysis as required
- Participate in customer and supplier meetings
- Supervise, communicate with and provide direction to QA Managers and Quality Engineers on quality issues on a regular basis
- Manage the QMS system and develop reporting procedures
- Recruit personnel and oversee development and maintenance of staff competencies in required areas in addition to selection, evaluation, progressive discipline and remuneration of staff
- Manage Quality related communications across all departments
- Contribute to awareness of corporate direction, mission, aims and activities
- Contribute to formulation of policy and strategy as a member of the senior management team
- Oversee internal audits
- Oversee corrective and preventive action initiatives
- Participate in proposal processes
- Responsible for continuous improvement in the Quality Department including knowledge, capabilities and efficiencies
- Allocate personal as well as quality department time as needed for mission accomplishment
Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of quality business practices and business development
- Knowledge of government procurement and contracting process
- Knowledge of manufacturing principles and business practices including knowledge of ISO 9001:2008 and AS9100C
- Knowledge of Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing concepts
- Knowledge of related manufacturing technology including explosive processing and testing
- Knowledge of military and aerospace specifications
- Experience in product management, including product development and new product introductions
- Experience in developing and managing budgets, hiring, training, developing, supervising and appraising personnel
- Experience writing proposals
- Strong computer skills in MS Office, Calibration and Statistical Process Control environments
- Excellent multi-tasking, analytical and decision making skills with the ability to troubleshoot, identify root cause and systematically solve problems
- Strong creative, strategic, analytical, organizational and leadership skills
- Strong English communication skills, both oral and written with the ability to facilitate meetings, conduct training and to present information in an advisory capacity
- Ability to travel as required by the position
- Capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously
- Capable of working in a team environment both as a team member and as a team leader
- Flexible and willing to accept new challenges
- Training Requirements/Performance Standards:

- Knowledge and compliance of workplace health and safety standards
- Minimum certifications as Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) and Certified Quality Auditor (CQA) through American Society for Quality (ASQ)
Physical Job Demands:
- Minimal lifting and physical effort required.
- Job may require standing for extended periods of time.
- Subject to random drug and alcohol testing under DoD regulations.
