Role Overview We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer with experience in HVAC and refrigeration systems to support the development of climate control products. This role focuses on system-level mechanical design, validation, and production support for rooftop air conditioners, heat pumps, and related mobile cooling/heating solutions. The ideal candidate has hands-on product development experience and is comfortable working across design, testing, and manufacturing environments.
Primary Responsibilities
Design and develop mechanical subsystems for RV air conditioning and refrigeration products, including sheet metal structures, molded components, heat exchangers, housings, and assemblies.
Contribute to full product development cycles from early concept through production launch.
Perform system-level analysis including airflow management, thermal considerations, vibration robustness, and manufacturability.
Create detailed 3D models, component drawings, and assembly documentation using modern CAD tools.
Apply GD&T principles to ensure proper fit, function, and manufacturability across multi-component assemblies.
Conduct tolerance stack-up analyses to evaluate dimensional variation and assembly performance.
Support prototype builds, alpha units, and pilot production runs.
Develop and execute mechanical test plans; analyze performance data and recommend design refinements.
Partner with manufacturing teams to improve cost, quality, reliability, and assembly efficiency.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives including value analysis/value engineering (VAVE) efforts.
Collaborate with electrical, controls, and thermal engineering teams to ensure complete system performance.
Technical Qualifications
Experience designing electromechanical products, preferably HVAC or refrigeration systems.
Working knowledge of refrigeration system components and packaging considerations.
Strong CAD proficiency (SolidWorks or comparable platform).
Experience managing product data within a PLM system.
Familiarity with finite element analysis tools for structural or vibration evaluation.
Demonstrated capability in detailed drawing creation and GD&T application.
Experience performing tolerance stack-up analysis across assemblies.
Understanding of structured product development processes (stage-gate or equivalent).
Ability to troubleshoot manufacturing and field performance issues.
Experience designing for manufacturability across processes such as:
Machined components
Injection molded plastics
Die cast components
Sheet metal stampings and formed parts
Experience Profile
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
Approximately 3–6 years of product development experience.
Background in air conditioning, refrigeration, or thermal system design strongly preferred.
Work Environment
Combination of engineering office work and hands-on involvement in lab and manufacturing environments.
Exposure to prototype builds, environmental testing, and production validation activities.
Limited travel (approximately several trips annually).
